Because we place utmost importance on the long-term oral health and hygiene of our patients, there are some instances when extracting a tooth will become necessary.

It is always our goal to try and save a patient’s tooth where possible, however sometimes the patient may be experiencing too much pain, discomfort, or infection for the tooth to remain.

Thankfully, the oral health care professionals at My Dentist are highly-trained and experienced in all kinds of dental extractions, including the extraction of wisdom teeth.

Great Dentist Dr Kat, addressed my ongoing dental issues.

Patient-centred and seeks what’s best for you. Reception was excellent and made me feel welcome.

Indications for Tooth Extraction

When Does a Tooth Require Extraction?

When Does A Tooth Require Extraction In Alderley, Newmarket, Brisbane In My Dentist
In many cases, a tooth will require removal if it is suffering from any of the following:
\
Infection or an abscess
\
Severe decay
\
Trauma or injury
\
Disease
\
Over-crowding
\
Unsuccessful root canal therapy
Additionally, there are many reasons why a wisdom tooth may need to be extracted, including:
\
Inadequate space at the back of the jaw
\
Teeth misalignment
\
Unusual root growth of the tooth or teeth
\
Impacted wisdom teeth which are unable to erupt

Thankfully, our dentist can remedy these concerns through performing an extraction, along with any other treatment which may be necessary.

Procedure and Aftercare

The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

During your consultation, our dentist will perform a thorough examination of your mouth to determine whether your tooth requires extraction. Additionally, they will take x-rays to gain a more comprehensive overview of your situation.

Our team can also discuss various sedation methods with you to ensure adequate pain management and comfort during the procedure. These methods include inhalation sedation (happy gas) or IV sedation. We are also happy to answer any questions you may have along the way.

The extraction process will take between 30 – 60 minutes to complete, depending on how many wisdom teeth require removal, as well as the complexity of the case. Stitches may be placed to re-seal the gum and antibiotics or pain killers may also be prescribed. Our team will then monitor your progress following the procedure.

I have had the wonderful pleasure of working with this team while I was living in QLD. I’m so sad to be leaving to return to NSW as the Dentist and staff here treat everyone like family and really do care for all patients. Such a beautiful environment. Will be recommending to all my friends around the area 🙂
